Global Hands Charity

Global Hands is a “hands on” charity network. (Registration pending) Our philosophy is not to “give people fish, but rather to teach them how to fish”.

As such we provide money to developing areas in order for them to:
Provide class rooms for their children
Provide land for them to grow vegetables and other plants including fruits and herbs
Employ teachers to teach the children pre-school curriculum
Teach children basic health and hygiene
Provide one nutritious meal a day
Educate the children in horticultural techniques that apply to their local area
Teach them how to play new and interesting games

Our intention to further this cause is several fold:
Slowly expand the course work to encompass primary and secondary school work
(Included in this would be building extra facilities, possibly including necessary housing where required)
Arranging appropriate parenting in situations where this is deemed necessary (With orphans, sometimes an entire extended family is wiped out by landslides, as in the case of Nepal, and the children end up having no-one to go to)

After this charity has been operational for some time, we would be looking to the local community to help us establish other similar projects in adjacent areas, where we would provide the money to establish the respective schools, but they would provide people to teach, coach and supervise the setting up of these facilities.

At this time we support several schools. Two of the main ones are in The Gambia and one is an orphanage in Nepal. As well, we help neighbouring schools if we can.

The future, with the help of sponsors, is encouraging. The sky is the limit. Our short-term goal has just been realised. With the help of Trekking for Kids, the Nepalese orphanage we assist (see photo to the right) is now located in a new home. See photos on the Nepal page. It is the aim of The Destitute Children's Home to double the existing number of orphans in the next 12 months.

Our mid-term goal is to establish a scholarship for a teacher to visit the UK, USA or Australia to learn teaching techniques and a first-aid course, and then to return home and share that new knowledge. Our long-term vision is to build a rehabilitation camp for child soldiers in Africa.
